A shiny deep red colored cinnabar crystal on a bright white calcite matrix. This special form is also called bishop’s cap. The association of the word cinnabar (Zinnober in german) for pointing out failures originated from the alchemists who tried to synthesize gold out of mercury-Hg and sulphur-S. But what they formed was unfortunately not gold... it was cinnabar HgS - a chemical combination of these 2 elements.
